Why should we be saved?

We are saved from Sin
When God created humankind, He created him/her perfectly. At the time when humankind was faced with temptation and the power of choice was put to work; humankind succumbed to the offer Satan had put into place hence resulting into rebellion against God. Sin is therefore anything that opposes the purpose of God - you name it. It is more than a regret to bring to understanding that sin now dominates and influences humankind to rebel against the purpose of God. Humankind needs a savior for deliverance from his/her impending danger as a result of sin. God made the plan of our salvation already and the chapter of (Matthew 1:21 KJV) makes this declaration: “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins.” To be saved therefore carries more meaning than what is assumed to be. To be saved is a divine provision through the grace of God to sinful humankind who responds to the invitation of God, made perfect and public by Jesus Christ dying on the cross at Golgotha/Calvary. (Acts 4:12) “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” The name Jesus is rendered in Hebrew to the word “Yoshua,” which is literally translated: savior, deliverer, or redeemer with the main purpose to save “Yasha.” (Deuteronomy 20:4) “For the Lord your God is he that goeth with you, to fight against your enemies, to save you.” We cannot work out our own salvation, but our salvation has already been made available in the work of Christ on the cross.

It is on this realization that we have to acknowledge Him by faith in our life as our personal savior. Religion did not vote Jesus lest we think there is any other alternative by which we can be saved. Being saved is not joining any given denomination, but first we must have or seek a personal relationship with Jesus as a personal savior, and then we can belong to a local church… a place where we are grown in the word of God. That is why Christianity is not a religion but a personal relationship with Jesus as a savior. In confirming what God had/has set upon His anointing for our salvation: John the Baptist has this story to say (John 1:29) “…Behold the lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” It is only Jesus Christ who makes us to be saved from our sin. There is no any single religion or name of any other individual or any cultural ritual that can save humankind from his/her sin except Jesus Christ. (I Timothy 1:5-6) “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.”

It is then clear that to be saved also refers to the reality that our sin is taken away from us because we have acknowledged our state of the impending danger. (Isaiah 43:25-26) The prophet makes this intention of our living God known to us: “I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions for my own sake, and will not remember thy sins. Put me in remembrance: let us plead together: declare thou, that thou mayest be justified.” Humankind has always in ignorance referred to God, as a God who does not understand their position, which has and makes them sinners. Sometimes we imagine that God does not have a clue of our modern challenges that brings vulnerability to sin. It has to be made clear that God hates sin and he wants all humankind to be saved. The giving of His only son to die on the cross for our sin; and his revealed word towards us in the Holy Scriptures, paints a picture of God who cares, and ready to save by forgiving our sins hence bringing forth a state of justification. To be justified is a legal term and it is only God who has authority and can free us and make you without charge. In this case God is willing to make us without charge on our willingness to believe in Jesus Christ our personal savior. Humankind should not carry on living in sin. (Isaiah 1:18-19) “Come now, and let us reason together, saith the Lord: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. If you are willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land.” This has to be clarified here by stating that salvation is not collective but personal. Humankind from a personal level have an obligation now, not tomorrow to be willing and obedient to God’s invitation through His son Jesus Christ… to salvation. We cannot live ignorantly as if all is well yet we have impending danger awaiting us. Some people might have encountered several dangerous circumstances that they survived and in their heart they’re deceived that nothing can shake them anymore. Judgment awaits humankind and nobody knows when this will be done.
